Joey Barton, the Sun and a Rant in G Minor

I know that it is a recurring theme within this blog but it needs to be constantly repeated that sections of the British media are quite simply little more than a disease that threatens to destroy any basis of Christianity or morality in this country. An obvious example is the viper in the pack, the Sun.

Today, the Sun is inviting its readers to salivate in wet dreams about the difficulties of footballer, Joey Barton. Now Barton who seems to have difficulties with his temper, is facing the prospect of two court cases for what are serious charges of assault. Neither me nor the editor of the Sun knows whether he is guilty or not and indeed we do not know whether a custodial sentence would be appropriate were he to be convicted. Do you get it? The Sun and me have actually got something in common in that we both speak from a position of ignorance concerning the legal difficulties of Joey Barton.

But our having something in common ends there. I am prepared to let the legal system come to a proper conclusion of the matter recognising that the prospect of imprisonment is a potential personal tragedy for Mr Barton which may or may not be necessary. But it is different in the sick world of Wapping. They cannot contain their excitement.

Let's think of this morning's Sun. Because Barton is apparently in fear of being attacked, the front page of the Sun labels him, "Cry Baby Barton." Wow! Perhaps Sun journalists would like to heroically swap places with him. Of course not! This is quite simply about the duhumanisation of a man. It's funny when you work for a soft porn newspaper to think that a man is in fear of having his head kicked in. But I have to add that if you are at that level your head is well and truly stick in the sewer.

During the day, Barton has been released. But the Sun is still salivating. The lastest article mocks Barton with a nursery rhyme made up by some heroic Sun journalist or other entitled "Cry Baby Barton." What follows in the rhyme totally prejudges the fortcoming trial.

Let me at this point make a passsionate protest. With Joey Barton and not so long ago, the sick people who are dragging journalism into the gutter, salivate over the likely sufferings of individuals in prison. But surely a prison sentence is about a loss of freedom and not about being spat on, threatened or having your head kicked in. These are barbarisms that the rule of law does not recognise, Thesethings are the law of the jungle which is where sub fascist newspapers clearly belong.

Surely, if we are to be a decent society, the time has come to make a stand. There is no decency in this sort of salivating in the fear and possible shedding of blood of others howver poor their behaviour. There is no decency in denying individuals any worth. It may be the ethics of the Sun and certain fellow traveller newspapers but it is a stance that is intrinsically evil. If there is a Satan, he must be jolly proud of such garbage journalism.

Gordon Brown is currently having a few difficulties. If he wants to restore trust in his leadership, he will make it clear to Ruper Murdoch that the days of favoured access are over. He will tell Murdoch that he can forget access to Dpowning Street for either himself or his minions as long as he carries on prostituting standards of journalism and decency. Standing up to bullies might be exactly what is needed to restore confidence in our Prime Minister.

Back to the matter in hand. Mr Barton may not be a nice man but he is a damned sight better than those who produced this nasty, evil journalism.

Rant over! It is finally out of my system.

Hi there
Quite in agreement with your opinion about the vile right-wing press.

And even though you're a bit out of our immediate jurisdiction, I was wondering if you'd be interested in submitting some piece to www.peoplesrepublicofsouthdevon.co.uk.

Drop me a line on info@peoplesrepublicofsouthdevon.co.uk if you fancy.

All the best
