PREZZA'S WISDOM

As one who thought that being a foul mouthed oaf was the limit of John Prescott's contribution to the election, today broughta shock.

An endearing feature of the Labour Party is that they think anyone who emails them is a supporter - suggests they don't bother reading what the public writes! As I have complained about such matters as the receipt of a donation from Porno King Richard Desmond and the matter of a war duplicitously entered into, I am regarded as a supporter and indeed once I was an active member.

Anyhow today's email from Labour HQ was a warning about letting the Tories in by voting Lib Dem, Green etc. Forget the little matter of evidence by experts in the science of voting that this is absolute rubbish. It is more than a little patronising. Anyhow Prezza had a treat today with a mock ballot paper. When you try to vote for any party other than the big two, you just can't. Instead your vote becomes a vote for the Conservatives and sure enough the face of Michael Howard appears. Obviously to the giant brain of John Prescott democracy means having just two choices - in other words you have to have a pro war government led by someone who has bowed the knee to Rupert Murdoch.

Mark Steel puts it well in the Independent;

It feel like a wicked stepfather saying, "Alright, I abuse you three days a week, and you've made your opposition to that clear and I recognise it. But if you run away, the only place you can go is to your wicked uncle and he abuses you four times a week. So you might think you can afford a silly protest, but look where it ends up."

And that dear Reader is what it has come to. Labour's application to govern you is based on a myth that the only alternative is a more extreme version of what they offer. Perhaps as we demand real democracy we will cry out for something infinitely better.
