ID CARDS

There is much on the net about ID cards. I have to admit that I am at present unconvinced of benefits and frankly I distrust this government on matters of civil liberties.

Two questions particularly strike me;

1/. I can't understand why Parliament should vote to introduce a scheme when the home Secretary refuses to say how much it will cost.

2/. If it's necessary as a defence against terrorism, why will it not be compulsory for another eight years?

I can't help feeling that a little frankness by the government would be helpful.
